FAQs
I found existing water damage in my home. What should I do first?
Call us so we can help identify the problems and extent of the damages. We will also provide guidance and develop a plan of action that best serves your situation.
I have an active water leak in my home. What should I do first?
First, locate and shut off the main water supply to stop the leak. To find the main water supply to your home, start by locating the water meter, typically near the street or sidewalk outside or inside the basement or a utility room. If the meter is outside, look for a covered box near the curb and open it to access the meter, and shut off the valve. If it’s inside, check where the main water line enters the house, usually in the basement, crawl space, or utility room. In homes without basements, the valve might be near a utility room near the water heater or furnace. The shut-off valve can be a gate valve (round handle) or a ball valve (lever). If you have trouble locating or operating the valve, contact a plumber for help. Then, immediately contact Dry Out Restoration to address the issue and prevent further damage.
How do you ensure the safety and cleanliness of your home during mitigation?
We follow the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) and CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment standards) standards and regulations to safely and properly contain the affected areas, minimize dust and debris, and ensure proper ventilation. Our team also uses personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
How do I know if I have mold?
Signs of mold include visible spots, a musty odor, and health symptoms like allergies or respiratory issues. If you suspect mold, it’s crucial to have a professional inspection and mold testing performed. Mold exposure can cause health issues such as allergies, respiratory problems, skin irritation, and, in severe cases, infections. It’s important to address mold problems promptly to protect your health.
Do you work with my insurance company?
Yes, we work with all major insurance companies. We can assist with the claims process, providing documentation and communicating directly with your insurer to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience.
How long will the cleanup and restoration process take?
The duration of the cleanup and restoration process varies based on the extent of the damage. On average, water damage mitigation typically takes 3-5 days, while repairs may take several weeks.
How can I prevent future flooding?
Prevent future flooding by maintaining your gutters and downspouts, installing a sump pump, grading your landscape to direct water away from your home, and sealing foundation cracks. Water sensors can also be placed in areas where water leaks or flooding are possible.
What should I do if I suspect there is hidden water damage?
If you suspect hidden water damage, contact us immediately for a professional inspection. We use specialized tools like moisture meters and infrared cameras to detect hidden moisture and assess the extent of the damage.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover the damage?

We recommend reviewing your policy and contacting your insurance provider for details. You are always welcome and encouraged to ask our project managers for guidance throughout the process.

How can I prevent mold growth?
To prevent mold growth, it is most important to take care of water damage before it becomes a problem. Mold growth can happen as early as 72 hours after a water loss. Other tips are to keep humidity levels in your home below 60%, fix leaks promptly, ensure proper ventilation in high-moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens, and use mold-resistant products during renovations.
